I have been working as a consultant child and adolescent psychiatrist in the UK since 2007. I have a full time post in the NHS and have membership of the Royal college of Psychiatrist with a Certificate of completion of specialist training in child and adolescent Psychiatry.I am also registered with the GMC and take part in annual appraisals for consultants.
I have a broad experience of managing various childhood mental health conditions like Depression, Anxiety. OCD and Trauma disorders.I also have vast experience in managing Neurodevelopmental disorders like ADHD and ASD. I have trained in 3di and ADOS assessments for diagnosing ASD conditions in children and young people.I have been involved in large multicentre study on adolescent depression named IMPACT. I was also involved in routine outcome measurement in children in study called POWER UP. I have also contributed to recruitment into studies on PTSD in children. I have experience of leadership and training and have been the clinical lead for camhs for 3 years.
My therapy experience includes training in CBT, Family Therapy , Psychodynamic therapy and motivational interviewing. Whilst I do not offer these as stand alone interventions I am skilled in using the various psychological models to develop a formulation of the child and young person’s needs.
I see children from the age of 5 onwards until the age of 18. Children can choose to be seen with their carers or parents and the approach is usually very informal unlike an acute hospital clinic. There are toys and drawing materials which children can use in order to feel comfortable and share their difficulties. I however prefer to see the children on their own as it is very important to have the voice of the child and young person to unpick mental distress from mental illness.I work within the realms of Gillick competency.Confidentiality is always respected keeping in mind the framework of child protection.
