Many autistic children (some estimates suggest around 40%) also have features of ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) or ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder). We offer an initial screening service for ADHD, and the results within our detailed report can then be either shared with your GP to consider whether an onwards referral to local paediatric services might be appropriate. Alternatively for local families, we can offer further assessment with our Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist who can discuss and prescribe medication if needed.
For those parents who either do not wish to consider medication, or who feel that their child might benefit from a psychologically based behaviour management approach, we can help to put together an individualised behaviour plan and can offer on-going support if required.
We also have a member of our team, who has experience in sensory integration difficulties, and who can advise on strategies for use in the classroom and home which may help a child to concentrate and focus more effectively.
